Session on : Cancer Staging

Staging is the process of judgment out how much cancer is in a person’s body and where it’s positioned. It’s how the doctor determines the stage of a person’s cancer. For most types of cancer, doctors use staging info to help plan treatment and to predict a person’s outlook. . The cancer phase is also a way for doctors to report the extent of the cancer when they talk with each other about a person’s cancer. They are different types of Staging like Clinical Staging, Pathologic Staging and Post Therapy Staging determines how abundant cancer remains after a patient is first treated with systemic and radiation treatment prior to their surgery or where no operation is performed. This can be evaluated by clinical staging guidelines and pathologic staging guidelines.Cancer staging is the way toward deciding the degree to which a disease has created by spreading. The TNM framework is the most generally utilized disease organizing system.

Session on Cancer Prognosis

Cancer Prognostic gives us the information about the percentage of people who survive certain type of cancer for specific amount of time. There are different ways to measure and report survival and different types of cancer survival statistics. Cancer survival rates are supported the research by giving information gathered from about hundreds or thousands of individuals with a particular cancer. Some of the factors that affect prognosis like the type of cancer, its location in the body, the stage, size of the cancer, the cancer’s grade, age of the patients etc. The period of time varies; it may be 1-5 years. Cancer specific survival is also called as disease-specific survival

Session on Common Therapies In Cancer

Cancer can be dealt with by various procedures. The decision of treatment relies on the area and grade of the tumor and the phase of the sickness, and also the general condition of the patient. Numerous exploratory malignancy medications are additionally being worked on. A few people with disease will have just a single treatment. Be that as it may, a great many people have a mix of medicines, for example, surgery with chemotherapy and additionally radiation treatment. You may likewise have Immuno treatment, Targeted treatment, or Hormone treatment. Radiation is sent to the body externally called external-beam radiation therapy and if the radiation comes from radioactive material placed in the body near cancer cells it is called internal radiation therapy or brachytherapy. Radioactive iodine that travels in the blood to cancer cells is systemic radiation therapy. Radiation therapy is done by damaging the DNA of cancer cells, in which it can damage the DNA directly or create free radicals within the cells that can in-turn damage the DNA. Radiation oncologist’s plans a patients treatment through a process called treatment planning, that begin with simulation.Cancer chemotherapy involves the selection of drugs and dose levels, which will eradicate cancer cells, without causing severe host damage or toxicity. Depending on the primary location and the extension of the disease, chemotherapy can be curative or palliative. . Chemotherapy can be in most cases a major adjuvant to surgical therapy and/or radiotherapy. It is most successful against Leukemia. Mechanism-based approaches have also been explored for several decades.

Session on : Transplantation to Treat Cancer

High-dose chemotherapy (HDC) and bone marrow or blood stem cell transplantation (SCT) are the best treatments available for many kinds of cancer. To deliver high-dose chemotherapy, stem cells must be collected before treatment for infusion into the patient to support the recovery of the patient’s bone marrow.Chemotherapy drugs and radiation therapy are used to treat cancer. Higher doses of therapy kill more cancer cells than lower doses of therapy in certain types of cancer. When higher doses of therapy kill more cancer than lower doses, doctors say there is a “dose response effect  It works like this: high doses of chemo (sometimes along with radiation), work better than standard doses to kill cancer cells. But high doses can also kill all the stem cells and cause the bone marrow to completely stop making blood cells, which we need to live.

CAM cancer therapies include Complementary and Alternative Medicine, which are generally non mainstream practices. Recently, CAM therapies are gaining importance in managing adverse symptoms of Cancer. If a non-mainstream treatment is used together with conventional medicine, it’s considered as Complementary treatment. If a non-mainstream treatment is used in place of conventional medicine, it’s considered as “Alternative treatment. CAM consists of treatments that are based on scientific concepts of human physiology and pathology. Most people who use non-mainstream approaches use them along with conventional treatments. CAM therapies include a wide variety of botanical and nutritional products, such as dietary supplements, herbal supplements, and vitamins.

Session on : Cancer Genetics and Epigenetics

Cancer is a genetic disease caused mainly due to the Alterations in different kinds of Genes. A change in a gene is called a ‘fault’ or ‘mutation’ Cancer Genetics is the branch of Genetics dealing with gene alterations in Cancer patients. Mutations in Oncogenes and Tumor suppressor genes contribute to the development of cancer. The most commonly mutated gene in people who have cancer is p53. Germ line mutations in BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes increase a women’s risk of developing Hereditary Breast Cancer or Ovarian Cancers.Mutations in tumor suppressor gene of PTEN protein causes Cowden Syndrome, an inherited disorder that increases the risk of Breast, Thyroid, Endometrial and other types of cancer. The study of epigenetic modifications to the genome of cancer cells that do not include a change in the nucleotide sequence is known as Cancer Epigenetics. Epigenetic alterations are as important as genetic mutations in a cell's transformation to cancer and their manipulation embraces great potential for cancer prevention, detection, and therapy. A wide range of compounds are considered as epigenetic carcinogens such as arsenite, diethylstilbestrolhexachlorobenzene and nickel compounds. They result in an increased incidence of tumors, but they do not show mutagen activity.

The Euro zone accounted for 21% of total oncology costs in 2016.

In Asia-Pacific accounted for 9% of total oncology cost. The research for cancer drugs in Asia-Pacific is emerging with the focus towards the development of biosimilars. The popularity of various cancer types is high in developing countries which render these regions as promising locations to conduct clinical trials.

During 2010-2014, Patients of only 6 countries had access to at least half of the 49 launched medicines.

Patients obtained access to as many as 41 of these new medicines in the United States, and as few as one in Vietnam and Tunisia

Only 25 of the 49 new cancer medicines analyzed are currently available in 20 or more countries. Seventeen of the 49 new cancer medicines are currently available in 10 or fewer countries.
