Cells that undergo uncontrolled division and proliferation are termed as cancer cells. Changes or mutations in the cell genome is the cause of cancer. Cancer biology deals with these changes and the molecular networks that control cell proliferation, differentiation and cell death. The study of various types of cancer is termed as Oncology. Cancer is treated by oncologists who are specialized in the field of cancer.

When a patient receives high doses of chemotherapy or radiation therapy, their stem cells or blood forming cells, gets damaged.
